Holiday Camp Coding and Smart Cities July 2026

13–17 July • Full-day summer adventure for curious young creators

Welcome to an exciting week where technology meets imagination, architecture, and real-world problem solving! This dynamic camp invites children aged 5–12 to step into the world of coding, design, and building smarter cities, combining playful creativity with hands-on projects and outdoor exploration.

What kids will experience:

Foundations of Coding – Through friendly, age-appropriate programming tools and playful challenges, campers learn key coding concepts such as sequences, loops, and logic while creating interactive city systems, digital maps, and smart solutions.

Design & Build Your City – Using a variety of materials such as cardboard, clay, miniature bricks with mortar, paper, and recycled items, children will imagine and create their own cityscapes, complete with buildings, streets, parks, and public spaces. Along the way, they will explore architectural concepts and discover how cities function.

Integrate Sensors, Motors & Technology – Bring creations to life by adding simple electronics, sensors, and motors. Campers will experiment with a variety of smart city applications, such as:

  • Light sensors for streetlamps that automatically turn on at dusk.
  • Motorized traffic signals or pedestrian crossings that respond to movement.
  • Interactive bus stops or public kiosks with touch sensors or motion-activated displays.
  • Water-level sensors for smart drainage systems to prevent flooding in miniature city models.
  • Energy-monitoring elements that light up buildings based on “energy usage,” demonstrating sustainable city planning.
  • Sound or motion-triggered public art installations, showing how urban spaces can respond dynamically to people.

By combining physical builds with digital interactivity, campers gain hands-on experience in how smart cities use technology to improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability.

Outdoor Exploration & Creative Play – The camp includes playful activities that combine movement and problem-solving:

  • Mapping and planning outdoor city layouts
  • Brainstorming city features inspired by nature
  • Team challenges to explore how smart cities interact with their environment

Teamwork & Problem Solving – Kids collaborate in small groups, strengthening communication, cooperation, and creative problem-solving as they tackle real-world inspired challenges like energy efficiency, transportation flow, or public space usability.

Showcase & Celebration – At the end of the week, campers will present their smart city projects — from conceptual designs and coded features to interactive demonstrations – to theier parents, celebrating what they’ve learned and built.

Why this camp is special:

  • Combines coding fundamentals with hands-on architecture and design
  • Encourages creativity, critical thinking, and real-world exploration
  • Blends indoor projects, tech challenges, and outdoor play
  • Delivered in both German and English, so kids can feel comfortable learning and experimenting in either language
  • Perfect for kids of all experience levels, from beginners to young tinkerers
